Some of the most dangerous chemicals found in many cosmetic and personal care products include Paraben, a chemical found in deodorants, lotions, hair products, and cosmetics. It has been shown to mimic the activity of the female hormone estrogen, which may drive the growth of breast tumors in humans. A study published in 2012 suggested that parabens in deodorants and other cosmetics actually appear to increase the risk of breast cancer.
The research looked at where breast tumors appeared and determined that the highest concentrations of parabens were found in the upper quadrants of the chest and armpit area, where antiperspirants are generally applied.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a surfactant, detergent, and emulsifier used in thousands of cosmetic products, as well as industrial cleaners. It is present in almost all shampoos, scalp treatments, hair color and whitening agents, toothpastes, liquid soaps and cleansers, makeup bases, liquid hand soaps, laundry detergents, and bath oils and salts.
The real problem with SLES / SLS is that the results of the production process (ethoxylation) in SLES / SLS are contaminated with 1.4 dioxane, a carcinogenic by-product.
Phthalates are plasticizing ingredients that have been linked to birth defects in the reproductive system in males and decreased sperm motility in adult men, among other problems. Be aware that phthalates are often hidden on shampoo labels under the generic term "fragrance."
Methylisothiazolinone (MIT), a chemical used in shampoo to prevent bacteria from growing, which could have harmful effects on the nervous system.
Toluene, made from petroleum or coal tar, and found in most synthetic fragrances and nail polish. Chronic exposure is related to anemia, low blood cell counts, liver or kidney damage, and could affect the developing fetus.
And after reading these 'barbarities', will you continue to buy recognized brands with very good marketing but with little integrity? It is clear that selling and getting rich is their sole task and the welfare of consumers is little thing for these big brands.
